Name dropping Jason, Freddy, Leatherface and Michael Myers, Jones wears his slasher fandom proudly, even titling every chapter after old school splatter-fests like Slaughter High, Stage Fright, Don’t Go In the Woods, and Hell Night. Stephen Graham Jones makes endless meta references to the trashy video nasties of the 80’s VHS era that will delight any true horror fan.

As the body count rises, Jade must figure out if this is truly a real-life slasher movie or just wishful thinking. Jade’s deepest desires seem to come true when people start turning up dead, with all evidence mimicking the very horror movies she loves. Jade’s only joy comes from Horror movies, in particular, Slashers, the bloody gorefests where crazed masked psychopaths chop up frolicking teenagers who partake in drug use and debauchery, usually set in summer camps or an isolated cabin in the woods.

A newly developed gated community that popped up across from Indian Lake, gentrifying the small blue-collar town. Jade has nothing in common with the local townspeople, even less so with the bougie rich folks of Terra Nova. She also has a turbulent home life as she dodges an abusive alcoholic father and absentee mother. She embraces a goth image, dying her hair, wearing black eyeliner and offensive metal band t-shirts, while ditching class and working as a janitor. An outcast in her remote Idaho mountain town of Indian Lake, she spends her time navigating her teen angst existence. MY HEART IS A CHAINSAW tells the tale of Jade, a horror fanatic who knows all the clichés of slasher flicks.
